ACE is proud to host a Level 1 Avalanche Course through the American Avalanche Institute, taught by Caroline Dillon and Jenna Malone.

This course is subsidized by ACE and the American Avalanche Institute, attendees are receiving a $100 savings.

The Level 1 provides a solid foundation in avalanche knowledge and skills.  The AAI Backcountry Avalanche Checklist helps to focus the curriculum around a systematic approach to sorting and prioritizing information in the complex environment of decision-making in the backcountry.  We will travel in the backcountry, in and around avalanche terrain.  The classroom portion of the course will be online, with the majority of it self-paced online learning. Read the full course description here.

SCHEDULE:

  • Wednesday, Jan 5 - 6-8pm (via Zoom)

  • Thursday, Jan 6 - 8am - 5pm full field day

  • Friday, Jan 7 - 8am - 5pm (full field day with end of day Zoom debrief)

  • Students will need to complete self-paced online course prior to Jan 5

TEACHERS:

Caroline was born and raised in the Mad River Valley in Vermont and moved to Utah in 2010 mostly in search of bigger mountains but also to pursue a career as a registered nurse. Caroline currently lives and works in Alta, Utah as a nurse at the Alta Medical Clinic and as a ski patroller on the hill. Caroline feels most at home surrounded by snow but enjoys adventures in the mountains any time of year.

Jenna works in snow at Alta as a part time ski patroller, as a Powderbird Heli Skiing tailguide, and as an instructor for the American Avalanche Institute. She also works as a PA in Neurosurgery and Critical Care at Intermountain Medical Center, and has been working in the COVID ICU. She is a council member for the newly incorporated town of Brighton in Big Cottonwood Canyon, and has spent a few seasons on Denali as a medical provider for Denali Rescue Volunteers.

Please note that all guests will be required to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID19 test in order to attend.
