Join ACE for a discussion on suicide risk and its association with high altitude. Dr. Brent Kious, MD, PhD, an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Huntsman Mental Health Institute at the University of Utah will be presenting hypotheses about why altitude is associated with suicide risk, and reviewing the evidence surrounding the concept. He will discuss possible strategies for reducing the contribution of altitude to individual risks of depression, suicide, and other psychiatric conditions. His talk will be followed by a Q & A with Dr. Kious.
We will also include a 15-minute talk with representatives from the American Suicide Prevention Foundation & National Alliance of Mental Illness.
Dr. Brent Kious, MD, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Huntsman Mental Health Institute at the University of Utah. He provides care for hospitalized adult patients at HMHI and conducts research on the effects of altitude on depression, the use of nutritional supplements to treat depression, the impact of crisis services on suicide risk, and psychiatric ethics.
