carve your own wooden utensil
Tuesday, June 4th | 6 PM | Our Lady of the Snows | $5 | Sign-up Required
Join us for an evening of woodcarving and good company! In this class we will learn to carve a wooden butter spreader using only a simple carving knife. Students will learn to safely use the simple hand tool to shape and finish their kitchen utensils, leaving the class with a finished spreader and the skills to make many more independently. This class is perfect for those wanting to learn to wood carve or simply those who like to use their hands to create beautiful everyday objects! All tools and materials are provided, and no previous experience is necessary.
Grant Hawkes is a maker, wanderer, handtool addict, with a healthy dose of wool and herbal tea thrown in the mix. Born and raised exploring the woods and coastlines of Maine, he has always been fascinated with the outdoors and using his hands to make things. This led him to various apprenticeships under master craftfolk and wilderness guides as a young teenager and eventually leading his own programs as a young adult. He earned a degree in Recreation Resource Management and Folklore Studies at Utah State University and currently lives in Northern Utah with his wife. He loves to make lots of curly wood shavings and create opportunities for folks to make beautiful things they can use in their homes every day.
