ACE is proud to host a Level 1 Avalanche Course through the American Avalanche Institute, taught by Caroline Dillon and Jenna Malone.  You can expect to develop a solid foundation of how to prepare for and carry out a backcountry trip, understanding basic decision making while in the field, and avalanche rescue techniques required to locate and dig up a buried person.

This course provides essential training for anyone traveling in or near avalanche terrain: snowboarders, ski tourers, snowmobilers, mountaineers, snowshoers, everyone!  For aspiring professionals, this course fulfills a prerequisite for the AAI Pro 1 course down the line.

TEACHERS:

Caroline was born and raised in the Mad River Valley in Vermont and moved to Utah in 2010 mostly in search of bigger mountains but also to pursue a career as a registered nurse. Caroline currently lives and works in Alta, Utah as a nurse at the Alta Medical Clinic and as a ski patroller on the hill. Caroline feels most at home surrounded by snow but enjoys adventures in the mountains any time of year.

Jenna works in snow at Alta as a part time ski patroller, as a Powderbird Heli Skiing tailguide, and as an instructor for the American Avalanche Institute. She also works as a PA in Neurosurgery and Critical Care at Intermountain Medical Center, and has been working in the COVID ICU. She is a council member for the newly incorporated town of Brighton in Big Cottonwood Canyon, and has spent a few seasons on Denali as a medical provider for Denali Rescue Volunteers.

ACE aims to create an inclusive and accessible environment for all our attendees. Please contact our Executive Director, Sara Gibbs, with questions regarding accessibility.
